Sebastian W. Knudsen
Artist
“Light makes more sense once you’ve stood in the shadows.”
For Sebastian, painting is not about explanation – it’s about emotion. He wants people to feel his works, not necessarily understand them. Whether the theme is grief or joy, the essential thing is honesty — that each piece carries a sense of authenticity and truth.
Each painting holds its own story, but they are all rooted in the same pursuit: to express what is real. His art is a dialogue between light and darkness, a reflection on the parts of human experience we often avoid but cannot escape.
Sebastian believes that by acknowledging the darker aspects of life, we can better understand both ourselves and one another. “If we learn to see the dark for what it is,” he says, “it becomes more tangible, more livable.” In his view, darkness and light exist in symbiosis — one gives meaning to the other.
Though some may perceive his works as somber, Sebastian insists they are also filled with hope. The darkness is not a destination, but a space where light can emerge. His paintings invite viewers into that delicate balance — to stand in the shadows long enough for the light to make sense.
